Random Thoughts 1-29-2012

An interesting fact that upsets a lot of skeptics: the percentage of people with a high school diploma or college education who believe that at least some people have psychic abilities is higher than the percent with a less than high school education. The skeptics wished to believe that it was ignorant and uneducated people who believed in such nonsense, but the survey found otherwise. The survey also found that the percent who believe in psychic phenomena is increasing each year.

Politics, advertising and crime: the only fields I can think of where the biggest liars get the best jobs.

A recent study found that fried foods may not be quite as bad as some thought. The study found that people in Spain who ate fried foods were, on average, not fatter or less healthy than those who didn't. Some though were quick to point out, and rightfully so, that there is a big difference between a Mediterranean meal of fish fried in olive oil served with a fresh salad and a meal of French fries, cheese burger, and a fried twinky.

A Harvard Business Review article advises companies to move their best workers onto the most boring jobs. Then, the theory is, they will make those boring jobs better somehow. This is the kind of wacky nonsense that has resulted in the messed up corporate environment we have today. Don't reward the best workers by giving them the most challenging and interesting work, give them the boring stuff so they will loose interest and either leave the company or become as mediocre as the other workers.

I read that Julian Assange, the well known founder of wikileaks, is getting his own show on Russian television. A reward, I guess, for the great job he has done of revealing U. S. and other western countries secrets to Russia, China and Iran helping them immensely.

Hear from the heart wordless mysteries!
Understand what cannot be understood!
In man's stone-dark heart there burns a fire
That burns all veils to their root and foundation.
When the veils are burned away, the heart will understand completely
