Self-Destruction
Self-destruction is often touted today as a good thing, at least with machinery. If a rocket misfires and is heading towards a populated area, we want a self destruct option in it so it can be blown up before it can hit a populated area. If a highly classified piece of equipment such as a military jet is about to fall into enemy hands, we want the option to trigger self destruction and most military aircraft and other equipment have that option (although many wonder why that drone that landed in Iran either didn't have one or it didn't work). Of course, a self destruct button in a machine can be a dangerous thing. I'm sure we have all seen at least one movie, probably more, where the self destruct is turned on and the hero has to stop it, always with one second left of the countdown.
With people, few consider having a self destruct a good thing, yet many people are very much self-destructive without even realizing it. It has been said that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity. It might also be consider self-destructive in many cases.
When we are told many time over that eating junk food, heavily processed food, and now genetically modified food (GMO), can waken our bodies and lead to illness and death, yet we continue to eat such things, not just occasionally, but all the time, we are being self-destructive. When we continue to operate industries that pollute the air and water with pollutants that are slowly killing us, we are being self-destructive. And probably the strangest and least intuitive of all: when we put our personal interest above that of other people and the world in general, we are being self-destructive then also because if we destroy the planet and the species, we destroy ourselves, even though the intention was to benefit ourselves.
The most self-destructive behavior of all is when we place the interests of our mind and physical body far above the spirit body and soul. There is nothing wrong with caring for the mind and body, but when we do it at the cost of harming our spirit and soul, then we are throwing out the baby with the bath water. That is because no matter how much we care for our physical self, that body is going to die one day. Only the spirit and soul is forever. But if you don't develop that spirit and soul while you can, you might as well not have it, because it will go on forever, but WITHOUT YOU! You will be left behind because you didn't become an integrated being while you had the chance.
