Scripture: Luke 1:28-31
And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
And when she saw him she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
The announcement of the coming of Jesus as recorded by Luke. Notice that the angel refers to Mary as a favored women, but not as the Mother of God as so many do today. It is also interesting that, at least as recorded here, Mary didn't seem to think there was anything odd about an angel appearing to her, yet she must have recognized that he was an angel for surely she would not have listened if it was just a strange man talking to her.
