Don't Shut Out the Light
I don't really know how spiritual a person Charles Dickens was, but this statement is full of spiritual wisdom that he may or may not have been aware of. He may have been talking more from a social aspect, but it is even more meaningful from a spiritual point of view.
When we lock ourselves away from things we don't like, or simply don't want to deal with, we also are locking ourselves away from things that can be very helpful, useful, or educational to us. So if you refuse to let your kids go to college, or even public schools, because you think they are full of kids with loose morals, or aggressive and violent behavior, you will also be shielding them from learning about the world around them, a world they must learn to deal with eventually or it will destroy them. If we hide ourselves from books because some of them are violent and immoral also, then we also hide from the many good things that books can teach us.
Most important of all, if we hide from our spiritual responsibilities to develop our souls by either burying ourselves in materialistic pursuits, or following juvenile spiritual teachings that tell us everything is OK, there is no bad, no evil, everything is as it should be, so keep on as you are and we will all go to heave, even Hitler and Saddam Hussein, than we will be in for a rude non-awakening when our physical body dies because our soul will go to heaven WITHOUT US!
And we can't wait for somebody else to do it for us either, because that simply isn't going to happen. Yes, it is true that only God can save us, but he isn't going to if we are not trying to save ourselves by following the true teachings of the ancient holy masters like Jesus and Buddha, and not the phony nonsense made up by others that are primarily designed to keep people docile and under control of the state.
And, of course, don't hide from the sun because the sun, especially the spiritual sun, has not only healing powers but great wisdom that it is sending to our souls if we choose to listen.
