Like Fine Wine

To make fine wine is a lengthy process. You must carefully select the appropriate vines to grow in your area, plant them, fertilize them, weed them regularly, water them when there is a drought, etc. Once the grapes are ready, you must pick them carefully, remove the rotten ones, then press the good ones. Once the wine is prepared and bottled, it must be stored at the correct temperature for the correct amount of time before it is ready. There are no significant shortcuts to this process. If you plant the wrong vines for your region, pick the grapes too soon, store the bottles at the wrong temperature, you will get inferior wine at best and possible bottles of vinegar.

The same is true of spiritual growth. It cannot be done instantly of hastily. It is a process with steps that must be followed in the correct sequence and for the appropriate amount of time to produce the desired results. In the dark world that we live in, waking the soul is not easy. It has become easier now that the Sun of Righteousness is here to aid the process, but the process is still necessary.

First, the soul must be awakened. That alone is a process that for most of us can take years simply because we, and the world we live in, have become so materialistic, that we can't even understand what it means to awaken the soul.

Once the soul is awakened, it must be nurtured and allowed to grow. That means caring for it daily as you would a baby. Once a month, or once a week is not enough. So to keep the soul growing, to allow it to mature, it must be protected from the weeds of evil deeds and even evil thoughts and be fed with the Light of God which comes to us through the spiritual sun, the Sun of Righteousness.
