In The Same Boat
Unfortunately, such assumptions are unrealistic. There are crazies, there are pirates, there are fools. So if we want the boat to reach it's destination, we have to do something to prevent that sabotage. We have to be prepared to fight off the pirates. We have to neutralize the crazies by convincing them that drilling holes in the boat is not a fun thing to do or, as a last resort, throw them overboard to save the rest. We have to get the fools to work together with everyone else to get the job done or, as a last resort, throw them overboard. I know that sound very harsh to many and there are quite a lot of people who believe that everyone can be saved. That belief is unrealistic, and, by insisting on wasting time and effort trying to save those who cannot be saved, we doom those who can be saved. So we must do what we can to save ourselves and others who can be saved before time runs out and the ship sinks.
I am not talking about saving the planet from an environmentalist point of view, although it clearly needs that as well. I am more concerned with saving the planet and us from a spiritual point of view. The age of materialism is ending and we can move forward and become a spiritual world, or we can sink and be destroyed. The choice is largely our own.
