Random Thoughts 9-18-2011

When I hear that America is rated twelfth or fourteenth or something like that in education, I take it with a large grain of salt. That is because the method for rating a good education is flawed. The emphasis is on teaching the currently accepted theories of science and mathematics and teaching the job skills that will help young people get the jobs of today. They are not teaching them how to get the jobs five years from now because they simply don't know what skills will be in demand then. Nor are they teaching how to function as responsible human beings.  What they need to do is teach creativity, flexibility and innovativeness so the kids can adjust to a rapidly changing world, and that is not being done any better in Europe than it is here.

Destiny is no matter of chance.

It is a matter of choice.

It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” ~William Jennings Bryan

I wasn't able to go to the Reno balloon race, but I did get to see a few off in the distance.
