Interesting Times
“May you live in interesting times.”
I read somewhere years ago that this Chinese saying sounds kind of like a blessing, but is really a curse in disguise. You have to think about it a bit to get that. Boring times are times when not much is happening, nothing is changing, or at least the changes are very subtle and gradual. On the other hand, times when there are wars, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other forms of rapid change are very much interesting times. So, in that sense, it is a curse.
In truth though, it is both a curse and a blessing depending on the person, and how much of each depends on your attitude toward change. If you are a “contented cow” type who wants to just go with the flow and continue on with doing everything by rote, rarely having to change , than you will probably find “interesting times” to be a curse. If, however, you a person who is open to new things and happy to change when warranted, you will find such times a blessing.
We are living in interesting times. Probably the most interesting times in quite a few centuries. Some people are not aware of this yet and are trying to cling to the past. Fortunately though, there are others awakening more and more every day and becoming aware that the world is seriously flawed.
We are seeing flaws in political systems and people are rebeling against some of the worst. We are seeing major problems with modern medicine that seems to be based largely on trying to get as much money as possible from every patient, whether the treatments are really helping or not. We are questioning business models where the top two or three percent of the people in the corporation do one percent of the work and get twenty percent of the money.
In short, we are questioning materialism. We may have no idea why this is happening because most of us are not aware of the subtle changes that are taking place in the world and in the universe. The energies flowing to us from the cosmos and primarily through the sun, are changing and those changing energies are changing us. We may not be aware of these energy changes that are happening on both the spiritual and physical levels, but they affect us anyway. Sadly, some will continue to resist the change and probably not survive it as a result, but those who embrace it and work with it will find great blessings in these most interesting times.
