Angels and Demons, Good and Evil

He who does not see the the angels and devils in the beauty and malice of life will be far removed from knowledge, and his spirit will be empty of affection.” ~Kahlil Gibran

It is an interesting philosophy these days in some spiritual schools and spiritual groups that there is no such things as angels, devils or demons. Further, as part of this overall philosophy, there is no good and bad, everything is progressing as it should, everything is happening as God wants it to.

I do not prescribe to this philosophy. I think there is such a thing as good and evil and there are angels and devils. If there were no such things, than there would be no reason for us to have been thrown out of paradise and into this world of death, disease, and other horrors. If you prefer to think of angels and devils as positive and negative forces or energies, I can accept that, but I can't accept that they don't exist.

Part of this philosophy of no angels, no devils also seems to be that everyone goes to the same place—heaven or whatever other name you give to it—when you die, and that you don't have to do anything special, follow any particular spiritual path, or behave in any particular way to get there. This also I can't agree with. To accept this means that being a good person, helping others, caring for animals and the planet, developing our spiritual nature and teaching others to do the same is a big waste of time. If a mass murderer is going to go to heaven right next to the saintly person, why bother to be saintly? The idea is nonsense, and none of the major religious or spiritual teachers have ever taught such a thing. Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed, Moses, Zoroaster, etc., they all taught that we had to earn entry into heaven by doing a lot more than just dying.

The other side of the coin is those people who see angels everywhere. They are as common as insects. Angels are pulling drowning people out of the water. Angels are helping land airplanes when the pilot has a heart attach. Angels are revealing the winning lottery numbers. Angels are chatting up a storm with Indigo Children. Unfortunately, none of this is true either. Angels are concerned with saving souls, period. They don't care if we win the lottery, get the job, or land the plane. They are advanced spiritual beings, not slaves of man.
