Scripture: The Pali Canon AN4:128

People for the most part delight in attachment, take delight in attachment, rejoice in attachment. But when the Dhamma of non-is taught by the Tathagata, people wish to listen to it, lend an ear, and try to understand it.

It is easy to become attached to objects, persons, animals and other things in the material world. They can bring us much pleasure. But, since everything material is temporary, and therefore illusion, we also feel sadness at the loss of them. It is not wrong to love our friends, our pets, our family, etc. but become attached to the immortal spirits behind those things, not the temporary physical manifestation.
