Cravings

To most people, when you mention cravings, they immediately think of people—possibly including themselves—who have certain food cravings. There are people who crave candy, people who crave sugary pastries, people who crave salty snacks like chips and pretzels, etc. Very often, these uncontrolled food cravings lead to obesity and other health problems.
But food cravings are not the only type of cravings. A very common form of craving today is electronics craving. These are the people who mush have the latest cell phone, TV, computer, GPS, etc. even though the one they got less than a year ago still works just fine. That is just as much a craving and often just as unhealthy as those food cravings.
Sex and power are two other very common cravings. The sex addict wants sex but, after he gets it, is not satisfied and wants more. Power addicts are often seen in politics, but also in business. They always want to be at the top, or at least in charge of something. They love to be able to tell others what to do, even when they have no expertise in the area. These are the type of politicians who want to tell people what they can eat and who they should marry. These are the types of business executives who start foundations to force their views on others. This type of craving is possibly the most dangerous because it makes the whole society unhealthy.
Why do these cravings, and others, exist? Why are they never satisfied? The answer is usually that what we really crave is not what we think we crave. Deep down inside of us there is a craving that can't be satisfied with food, power, money, or even smart phones. It is a craving that comes from our soul and our spirit. It is a craving to be set free from the materialistic prison we have created and put ourselves in (with help from Satan and his minions). And if we want to get any real satisfaction, we need to satisfy the real craving and start working on developing out souls and spirits.
