I was surprised and happy to hear a meteorologist on the Weather Channel say, as they were looking at the first reports of damage after the tornado that hit Springfield, Massachusetts, that the reason you could see some houses that were undamaged, while trees on the property were knocked down or uprooted, is because the trees around the building actually create a barrier that helped protect those houses. So those folks who cut down every tree within 100 feet of their houses to prevent having a tornado or hurricane knock them into the house, are not protecting their houses at all, but are actually exposing them to more wind and potential damage as well as more heat in the summer and more cold in the winter.

Remember the Large Hadron Collider that was built at a cost of billions on the border of Switzerland and France and it was going to solve the secrets of the creation of the universe? It opened for business three years ago, so where are all those answers it was going to provide?

Although there has been a lot of news recently about cell phones causing cancer, be careful about telling your teenagers to hang up. A father in Washington state did that and his 15 year old daughter got a hunting bow and shot him. Then she refused to let him use the phone to call for help so he had to crawl to a neighbor's house to get help.

A guy told his boss that his wife died of cancer and now his kids would get nothing for Christmas. The sympathetic boss got the company to send him a check for $7000. They sent it to his old address though, and his estranged wife got the check along with a sympathy card. She informed his boss and the police that she was not dead.

A man in Michigan was arrested after he stabbed his mother with a fork for refusing to give him money , then, when he was riding a bike, he passed two women talking and said something nasty to them, and they said something even nastier back at him, so he hit one of them with a frozen chicken.
