Rapture on May 21, 2011
It has recently come to my attention that some Christian groups are expecting the Rapture to began this coming Saturday, May 21, 2011. They have determined this using mathematical calculation based on certain statements in the bible. The first thing that will happen, according to one web site I checked, is all the dead will rise from their graves on Saturday and the world will be covered with people three layers deep! It sound like it's going to be a fun weekend. Of course, on the same day, God will start beaming the chosen ones up to heaven and will continue doing so until October 21, 2011.
The problem with this whole thing is that it is based entirely on falsehood. It is based first on the nonsensical idea that the earth and the universe were created in 11,013 BC. It is furthered based on a very literal interpretation of 2 Peter 3:8, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day". They are interpreting this to mean that in Heaven, or in God time, a day lasts exactly 1000 years so if the Bible says something will happen in a day, it really means 1000 years earth time. But if the Bible says something will last 1000 years, than it will only be one day of Earth time. Of course, this is not what it means at all. This statement in Peter simply means that time has no meaning whatsoever in Heaven and no meaning to God so when the Bible says God did something in a day, that may mean any amount of earth time from ten minutes to 1o million years! There is simply no way to convert heavenly time to earth time because time simply DOES NOT EXIST in the spiritual realms!
But what does the Bible really say about the date of the Rapture? It says, “Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh...” . Some will quote Thessalonians, “But ye brethren are not in darkness that that day should overtake you as a thief.” as proof that some will know in advance, but if you continue following that chapter of Thessalonians, it never says that. Instead, it implies that the Children of Light will be ready, whenever it comes.
So please, don't cash in your kid's college fund and max out your credit cards this Friday, because Saturday is just going to be another day.
