Spiritual Spring Cleaning

In Spring, we clean out our closets and get rid of those old things we never wear anymore. Those clothes that no longer fit, are no longer in style, or just don't suit us anymore. We might also go through boxes of stuff saved in the attic or spare room and clean those out before we end up on an episode of Hoarders.
We need to do spiritual spring cleaning also. To do this, we have to take a thorough and honest look at ourselves. Do we think we have gotten rid of our prejudices, but recently caught ourselves making some negative assumptions about a person or group because of their nationality, religion, race, age, etc.? Have we found ourselves getting angry with someone for something which we later realized was really our own fault as much as theirs? Have we caught ourselves avoiding something that we know we should do but our fear or failure, or some other fear, is preventing us from doing it.
If those, or similar things happened, then we still have a need for some spring cleaning. Once we have figured out what negativities are holding us back, the next step is to figure out why (if possible) and then do something to get rid of it. Just recognizing what our fears and weaknesses are often helps us to clear them out of our mental and spiritual closets. Asking God for help is also a good idea. If necessary, get help from friends or a professional. I have personally found Applied Kinesiology, particularly the Psych-k programs very helpful in getting rid of fears and phobias.
