Earth Day 2011
Today is Earth Day. While this should certainly not be the only day of the year when we think about environmental responsibility, it is certainly a good day to start or renew commitments to the environment if you have been lax. There are many things that you can do to help the environment, some better than others (I'm in favor of helping the environment, but not at the cost of our health or safety). If you need some suggestions, there are a number of web sites that can give you ideas including Earthday.org which also has links to other sites.
One I saw on there that I found interesting is The Canopy Project. We are often told to plant trees to help the environment, but many of us don't own property or don't have room for more trees. This project lets you donate money instead which is used to plant trees in places like Brazil and Haiti where forests have been decimated as well as in the United States.
Another I like is Arts for the Earth where artist's are encouraged to produce art works that promote environmentalism and also to be environmentally responsible themselves by using recycled materials, and materials that are not harmful. They also encourage museums and art galleries to be more environmentally friendly in design and use of energy.
Personnally, I have authored and published two books in electronic form only, not only because it is cheaper, but also because I think it is more environmentally friendly.
I'm adding this video at the last minute. The author sent me a link to it in response to another post, but I thought it was perfect here.
