Real Success
when I see it between his brows
clear, and fearless, even if tiny.
But when I see these great successful men
so hideous and corpse-like, utterly sunless
like gross successful slaves grossly waddling,
then am I more than radical, I want to work a guillotine.”~D. H. Lawrence
Real success is not about money or fame or winning a trophy. Sadly, few people believe that. They look at the wealthy and famous and consider them successful persons to be admired and imitated as much as possible. But look more closely at these supposedly successful people.
Wealthy people who have millions, or billions even, continue to strive to make more. In fact, many of them spend so much time trying to make more money, they have little time to actually enjoy what they have. And we have very famous people who get their photo on magazine covers several times a year, who get quoted often, who have two million followers on Facebook or Twitter, yet they become despondent and try to commit suicide, or drink and take drugs to bury their sorrows, or get a new trophy wife/husband every year or two to make them feel loved. Is that really a picture of success? Is stupidly spending the equivalent of two-years wages for the average person on a wrist watch that really doesn't keep time any better that a $100 watch actually being successful? No, of course not. Is owning twelve houses all over the world really success, when they are contain no real love? No.
These people may be envied by millions, but otherwise, they are often just as miserable as the rest of us. Why? Because no matter how much wealth or adoring fans they accumulate, they still feel there is something missing from their lives. They do not feel satisfied, so they keep looking for more, usually more of what they already have even though it has failed to satisfy. Isn't that really the same as one definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?
None of us is ever fully satisfied with material success because a part of us that often remains hidden is aware that the awakening of our spirit and soul and the achievement of full enlightenment is the only goal that is truly satisfying and eternal. And that awakening is aided by the Light of God as distributed to us by the Sun of Righteousness.
