Net Worth Method

When an accountant or financial advisor calculates your current net worth, he does it by adding up all your assets, then subtracting your debts. We should use a similar method when we are bothered by problems.
If you are feeling depressed or stressed out by money problems, relationship problems, a death in the family, a pet project that didn't go well, etc., you will find that you will feel much better if you also look at the good things in your life. You also need to remember that what seems to be a failure initially, may, in the long term, turn out to be favorable.
Your failure to get that job you wanted so badly may mean you will get a better one elsewhere. Or it may mean you will make a complete career change that turns out for the better.
The death of a relative may cause you to start paying more attention to your friends and relatives which can have a lot of emotional benefits and other types of benefits. It may also cause you to be more forgiving of others realizing that holding a grudge for decades is not beneficial to you or them.
A health problem won't seem so bad if you look at all the things that are still good about your health. It may seem like there aren't any positives sometimes, but think about what could be compared to what it. You may have painful knees due to arthritis, but you could be paralyzed from the waist down. You may have to buy new, expensive bifocals every year or two, but that's much better than being blind.
In short, always include your assets, your positives, when looking at yourself and your life, and you may find it is not nearly as bad as you thought it was when you dwelled on the negative.
