Building Bridges

We all need to build bridges. Not the kind that go over rivers or railroad tracks, the kind that join people together. The International Community of Christ does this by having an interfaith service where ministers and religious leaders of other churches and faiths are invited to participate in, by belonging to interfaith organizations, by partnering with groups of other faiths, and by inviting people of other faiths to attend some of our services. We even have one minister who is also a Buddhist priest.
Individually, we all need to do similar things to help us on our path of spiritual enlightenment. We need to make friends with people of other faiths. If that is not possible because of where we live, then we at least need to learn about other faiths and beliefs by reading books. And we shouldn't limit that to just people with different religious or spiritual beliefs. We need to learn to understand people from different economic backgrounds, people from different countries, people who speak different languages.
I have been fortunate enough to have done a fair amount of travel, mostly during my years in the military. It is a big eye opener to see the differences in the way people in different lands live, yet how much we are similar.
And it shouldn't stop with humans. We need to do a lot more to increase our understanding of animals, plants, all living things including the very planet we live on. Building such bridges will not only help us learn and grow, but uniting the planet is a necessary step in it's spiritual awakening.
