Using Spiritual Symbols
I have written many posts about the meaning of specific spiritual symbols that might appear to us in dreams, visions or unusual circumstances. We can also use spiritual symbols as aids to awakening the soul and growing spiritually. One way to do this is with symbols drawn on flash cards that we can look at as a type of meditation. Another is to have spiritual symbols in our home in locations where we will see them frequently. They can be hung on the wall, set on tables, or sit in the window.
I have a stained glass copy of the community cross hanging in a window in my house where I will see it frequently. I also have a printed copy of the cross hanging on the wall over my bed. A cross is one of the best symbols to use, but I don't recommend a crucifix. We want a symbol of spiritual growth, not a symbol of death. The earliest form of the cross, a simple circle with crossed lines in it, is a good version to use. I also have a set of cards with photos of ice crystals on them representing various positive words and thoughts. Any very spiritual work of art that makes you feel good is also a good choice. Some of the painting of Kahlil Gibran or William Blake are good examples. Even pictures of saints or holy men that inspire you to want to grow spiritually can be used. When using symbols on flash cards, you can also add incense and/or inspiring music to enhance the experience.
