Spiritual Symbols: Mist or Fog

A mist or fog is often symbolic of the veil that hides the greatest spiritual truths from us: truths that we are not ready to understand or handle wisely. Fog and mist usually occurs in valleys, in the lower places. In this case, lower places represent the lower, more material dimensions of the universe. The mountains often stick out of the mist or fog and represent the spiritual dimensions where the knowledge is revealed. The mountain top can also represent the higher self which knows the truth that is hidden from the lower self, the ego.
Being in mist can also be negative, indicating one who is trapped in illusion and falsehood. It can also indicate confusion and indecision about the direction one needs to take or what steps you need to follow. To see the fog lifting or the mist evaporating is symbolic of making progress toward enlightenment and gaining the true knowledge, the Gnosis.
To dream that you are in a very thick fog indicates that you are trying to make decisions without sufficient knowledge or intuition. See the fog lift in your dream probably means you will receive intuitive insights to help you make the decision. It is important to remember that a real, physical mist or fog is lifted or dissolved by the heat and light of the sun, just as a spiritual fog is lifted with the help of the spiritual sun.
