Spiritual Symbols: Wheat

Wheat is symbolic of the soul as a small seed sown into the lower nature, the physical body, where it waits for God's Light to awaken and nourish it so it can grow. It is the fruit of spirit reaped from the higher (spiritual) levels to the lower where it helps to transform the lower nature into the higher. So reaping what we sow is not about farming, although it applies there as well, it's about our spiritual development. If we sow materialism, negative ideas, doubts, fears and disbelief of spiritual things, we will certainly not reap enlightenment. If we sow love, compassion, honesty and a belief in the spiritual and belief in God, we will be well on our way to reaping spiritual enlightenment.
When coupled with barley, wheat becomes a symbol of wisdom and love. In short, wheat symbolizes the true nourishment much like bread which is usually made from it. The nourishment of the soul and spirit with God's Light, God's Grace. A sheaf of wheat symbolized a successful harvest to many people and so, in spiritual symbology, represents the successful harvest of worthy souls and spirits at the End Times, which is now.
