A Poet or a Bard is symbolic of a spiritual teacher. It is one who can take our thoughts and actions away from the mundane and materialistic to think about the higher levels, at least for a time. Poets and Bards produce rhythm and sounds that can awaken the soul and the higher facilities. Like a spiritual teacher, they traveled around seeking those who could truly appreciate what they had to offer. They can also represent the higher, more spiritual self, that seeks to come forth. Of course, this is based on the tradition poet or bard, not the modern poet who usually avoids rhyme and meter or the modern singer who generally has no real spiritual awareness, nevertheless, the symbology remains.
