Making Lemonade
A few days ago, HLN was showing video of two teens in California having a little fun with the flooding and torrential rain that was occurring there. They were sitting in lawn chairs on the side of a flooded road wearing wet suits, snorkels and masks and letting the cars driving by on the flooded road splash them as they drove by. A creative example of making lemonade when life gives you lemons.
Another favorite of mine is the story of the orange trees planted on the Caribbean island of Curacao. The climate and soil there is not good for orange growth and the trees produced small, bitter fruit. The original owner abandoned them but, many years later, someone realized that the strong orange flavor of the rinds could be used as a flavoring agent. Eventually, someone decided to use it as a flavor for liquor and the liquor that bears the islands name is the result.
We all need to learn to make lemonade when life throws lemons at us. Here are a few suggestions:

When you find that you can't afford to buy everything you would like to buy, don't complain about it, use it as an opportunity to learn how to better control your spending and spend more wisely now.
-
When you find that you have few good friends, use it to learn how to be a better friend to those you do have and you will soon find yourself with many friends.
-
When you have a problem that you can't solve, give someone an opportunity to help you solve the problem and feel better about themselves.
