Be Kind to Yourself
We try to be kind, tolerant and forgiving toward others, but what about to ourselves? The Jersey Shore folks not withstanding, most of us tend to be our own worse critics: "How could I possible think that I could write a book that would sell?", " Where did I ever get the crazy idea to run for mayor?", " Why did I book a flight on that airlines when I have problems every time I do?", etc. Not that I am suggesting we blame others when things go wrong, but we also need to be a bit more forgiving of ourselves. You didn't know that car you selected from the rental lot had a bad transmission, so why blame yourself? Your not making mistakes deliberately, your just human, so be tolerant and forgiving of yourself. And when you stop criticizing yourself, you stop programming yourself for failure.
This is just as true with spiritual matters as it is with everything else. We should examine ourselves as an aid to improvement, but not with a sense of criticizing ourselves to the point of making ourselves out to be spiritual failures. That too tends to become self-fulfilling prophecy as we program our subconscious to fail by constantly berating ourselves for our failures. When we do examine ourselves, place emphasis on the positive, on the successes, and stop thinking that your not worthy. You are worthy or you wouldn't have been called.
