The World is Us

It's easy to talk about "the world" and say: "The world has become too materialistic", "The world has become too violent", "The world has become too crowded", "the world has become anti=religion", etc.  We shouldn't forget that "the world" is not some abstract but is actually us, all of us, including you and me.  So if we want the world to change, we have to began by changing ourselves.  When we buy something, we need to think "is this something I actually need?" and not just run to buy it because it's the latest model.  When we support causes and movements, we have to ask: "Is this group actually helping people?" are they giving people alternatives and not just complaining about others behavior to give themselves a feeling of superiority.  When we support a politician, we have to make sure we are doing so based on all the issues, and not just one issue that is important to us.  Too many politicians get into office because they voice a popular opinion on one issue and then, once they get in, you discover you disagree with them on many other issues that didn't come up during the campaign.  In short, the world is us so, if the world is messed up, it is us that need to change in order to fix.  Just complaining about it isn't enough.
