Nature and Technology
For many decades, perhaps more than a century, technology moved us away from nature and each other. Electric lights allowed us to stay up late, do daytime activities at night, then sleep when the sun was up totally scrambling our natural rhythms. Air travel allows us to go all over the world in a single day messing with our sense of time. Television let us see parts of nature that we would probably never get to see in real life, but we saw it in an artificial way, without the scents, the touch, and the dangers of the real thing. So technology didn't move us closer to nature, it moved us away from it. That is why most of us lost the ability to sense oncoming natural disasters that animals can still sense, like tornadoes and earthquakes. And many people thing that modern computers and the internet have made that situation even worse.
Some say though that the internet is actually bringing people closer to each other and to nature again. That is because, with things like facebook, twitter, and blogs, people can share there ideas, opinions and discoveries with others anywhere in the world almost instantly. That includes environmentalists who can let people know when a country or a group is doing damage to nature. Or just individuals who can take and post photos of animal cruelty, dumping of hazardous waste, etc. This makes it harder for any person or company to get away with harming the environment. But does that really mean the internet is bringing us back to nature? I'm not so sure about that.

Even though a computer allows me to run my business from anywhere in the world and I love being able to work from home using a computer I think technology has made life very unhealthy. Kids no longer go outside to play. We don't walk anymore, we drive everywhere. We text instead of call. Our language has been made a mess of with texting, kids don't even know how to write or spell anymore! The art of letter writing is long gone. The most exercise the average person gets is to reach for the remote control. I do agree that it allows us to stay in touch and get information and see things we normally wouldn't have, but there is a very high cost. Our physical, mental and spiritual health.

Yes, kids communicate more with their friends, but it's all done electronically at a distance.
