Asking God
Many Christians believe they can and should ask God for whatever they want, and God will give it to them if He thinks they deserve it. They are not asking for spiritual gifts in most cases, but material ones:
- "God, give me a new car."
- "God, help me find a job."
- "God, cure my cancer."
These are not the things you should ask God to give you for two reasons. (1) the god of the material world is not the God, but Satan and (2) do you really know what to ask God for?
I think most of us who really believe in God can agree that God is smarter than us, so shouldn't we let him decide what we really need? So when you ask God for help, do it more like this:
- "God, help me to understand your plan for the world so that I can contribute to it."
- "God, help me to understand my true nature as a spiritual being."
- "God, send me your Light to awaken my spirit and soul."
Those are requests that will be answered by the real God and, in the end, will benefit you far more than material gifts.
