A Gnostic View of Jesus
Both conventional Christians and Gnostic Christians believe that Jesus was Christ and Messiah, but in many ways, their beliefs about him differ. While the major Christian Churches see Jesus as primarily a savior who came here specifically to die for us and, by doing so, saving those of us who worship him, Gnostics see Jesus as primarily a teacher who came here to teach us The Way, the path to enlightenment, the path to Gnosis. Rather than worshipping Jesus, Gnostics believe that what Jesus wants us to do is to follow his example of how to become an enlightened individual. Unfortunately, much of what Jesus taught to his apostles and closest disciples in secret has been lost as it was never put into writing, but much of this knowledge is returning through revelations and visions received by highly developed spiritual persons.
On the subject of Jesus's death, our beliefs differ there also. Conventional Christians believe that Jesus allowed himself to be put to death because God wanted it. Why would God want Jesus dead? Gnostic believe it was Satan, not God who wanted Jesus dead and Jesus agreed, since he knew he would die eventually anyway, at least physically, but he Satan that he would be the last blood sacrifice he would benefit from. Satan accepted the deal and so, despite the fact the some Satanic cults may still sacrifice animals and even humans to Satan, Satan cannot actually get any benefit (life energy that extends his life) from those deaths because of his agreement with Jesus, so, in that sense, Jesus was a sacrifice for us.
