Doodling is Revealing

I've previously written about the value of keeping a journal or simply writing stories.  Another way to open up your creativity that was probably stifled by a traditional education is doodling or drawing.  The best is when you don't plan ahead what your going to draw, just relax and let it flow out of you freely and naturally.  It doesn't matter if you are not a good artist, what matters is what is revealed to you in these simple drawings.  Sometimes something may be bothering you but you're not sure why.  Doodling can help to reveal what it is, so if your feeling angry, depressed, or fearful without really knowing why, try doodling.
Sometimes doodling can also help you find solutions when you do know why you are depressed, angry, etc.  but you don't know what to do about it.  In most cases, you should simply start drawing without even thinking about what your going to draw, but thinking about solving the problem.
This doodling can also be used to help overcome fears and illness.  If you think your fear is indestructible, draw a picture of it, however you see it in your mind, then destroy the picture.  This can help you understand that your fears can be overcome.  Likewise, if your ill, you can draw the illness, then destroy the drawing.  For example, if you have cancer, draw the tumor as you think of it in your mind, then shred it or burn it and imagine the same thing happening to the real tumor.
This doodling method may not work for everyone, but is likely to work best for those who are visually oriented, who think in images.  It's worth a try.
