Scripture: The Prashna Upanishad II:5-6

Prana  burns as fire, it is the sun, He rains as the cloud; He blows as the wind; He crashes as the thunder in the sky.   He is the earth, he has form and no form; Prana is immortality.
Everything rests in Prana, a
s spokes rest in the hub of a wheel: all the Vedas, all the rituals, all the warriors and kings.

The spiritual life force, called Prana in the Hindu writings, is in everything.  It animates everything.  Spirit can exist without matter or form but matter and form cannot exist without spirit.
