Moving Forward
"Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it! ~Ram Dass
We humans are all basically lazy, some more than others. If you don't think so, just consider the many billions we've spend in the last few decades to develop labor-saving devices and the many more billions we've spend buying them. We love to do things the easy way and we love to procrastinate. As a result, sometimes we need a kick in the butt to get us going.
Remember that old joke about the guy who is telling another to stop yelling at a stubborn mule and pulling on him and advising him to talk to the mule quietly and reasonably. Then he picks up a two-by-four and whacks the mule, then tells the other guy, "first, you have to get his attention." At times, we are like that mule and have to get whacked. It may be a sudden obstacle that gets thrown in our path that forces us to take a running leap to get over it instead of just meandering along like a snail. It may be a serious illness that forces us to reconsider our priorities and get back on the path to enlightenment. It may be the death of a fiend or relative. Whatever it is, use it to grow. And once you start moving, keep moving so the powers that be won't have to get out another two-by-four.
