Sound of Silence

All spiritual schools teach that one must silent the mind, the ego, in order to allow the spiritual consciousness to come through.  Like drilling a well in the mind so it will be filled with the waters of spirit.

It is in silence, devoid of appearances, that Reality is manifest.” ~ Isha Schwaller De Lubicz

Unfortunately, doing that is not nearly as easy as saying it.  Many schools have come up with various means of quieting the mind: meditation, mantras, thinking of things that are silent such as the sound of one hand clapping, etc.  These methods can certainly help us quite a mind that is constantly jumping around, but it doesn’t completely quiet the mind.  The one thing that can do that is the help of God, so the best way to accomplish it is to ask for His help.

One must listen to the silence, even if nothing speaks and nothing answers…Silence is always fruitful, but it’s fruit often appears outside ones periods of silence, at the most unexpected moments.” ~Isha Schwaller De Lubicz

Even though it may seem at times that nothing is coming through in those moments of silence, it is, but it is being received and understood by the soul, not the mind so you may not be consciously aware of it at the time.
