Surprise Someone
Surprise someone by giving them a gift, inviting them to an event, or just by asking them to do something with you. You can surprise a spouse, a friend or a neighbor. When I was a kid living in a small town in New England, nearly everyone had a vegetable garden in their back yard and many had a few fruit trees as well. It was common to share what you got from your garden with your friends and neighbors. When your tomato plants produced a lot of tomatoes, you gave some to the neighbors and they gave you cucumbers, or zucchini or whatever they grew. So everyone had fresh grown vegetables to eat instead of getting chemically treated ones from the supermarket. More importantly, this sharing was part of developing what was truly a community. We need to start doing more of that today, but in a legal way (kids sharing songs and movies with their friends may be a community thing, but it's also illegal.) Surprising each other with something totally unexpected helps reduce the monotony in our lives and gives us something to look forward to and something to think about. So, if you haven't done this for a long time, try it. You may be surprised at how effective it can be.
