Spiritual Symbols: Vase

A vase, pitcher or water bucket is a symbol of the cosmic waters, the Great Mother, or the matrix of creation.  It is also a symbol of the feminine, of acceptance and fertility.  It is maternal and nurturing.  Mother goddesses are often depicted pouring the water of life from a vase.  It is sometimes associated with the Tree of Life.  A vase or jug full of wine symbolizes inspiration, especially divine inspiration.  In Buddhism, a vase symbolizes spiritual success and triumph over the cycle of life and death.  To the Chinese, it is a symbol of harmony.  In Christianity, a vase with a lily in it symbolizes the annunciation.  A vase or urn is used to hold the ashes of a cremated person so can also represent a receptacle for spirit.  Vases containing oil, wine or water are an important part of many religious ceremonies.
In dream symbology, receiving a vase, particularly one full of flowers or made of silver, symbolizes some financial help is coming to you.
