Healing Herbs: Daffodil
| Since daffodils are blooming now, at least in my area, I thought they would be a good choice for an herb to discuss. Daffodils, also called Narcissus, are primarily grown as an attractive flower, but they do have some healing abilities also. Plasters made from the bulbs, usually mixed with barley or other ingredients, were traditionally used to treat burns, joint pain and muscle aches. It is also used to reduce respiratory congestion and to induce vomiting. An ancient ointment called Narcissimum was made from daffodils. Daffodil must be used cautiously and only under the guidance of a highly trained professional herbalist or naturopath. Last year, a number of children became very ill in a school in England when they accidently added a daffodil bulb, apparently thinking it was an onion, to a soup they made in cooking class. Daffodil bulbs and flowers should be kept away from children and pets. |

They are so pretty! You can't help but feel good when you see them as you know spring is here. I had no idea of the other uses!
