Spiritual Symbols: Hair

Hair is symbolic of the life force, energy, strength and power, especially those forces emanating from the head.  The hair on the top of the head represents higher, spiritual powers and energy, while hair on the rest of the body represents lower, material energy.  Loose hair represents freedom, while bound hair can represent marriage, servitude or slavery.  Hair standing on end is symbolic of possession or magical power.
On some statues of Buddha, the hair is carefully curled.  This represents control of the life force and spiritual energy (which is a major goal of spiritual development)  as well as serenity and tranquility.  To steal a lock of someones hail, or to cut their hair short is symbolic of taking their power and strength as with Samson and Delilah.
In a dream, letting someone cut your hair can symbolize letting others control your power and energy, but seeing yourself brushing your hair symbolizes renewing your energy.
