Cultivating Happiness
Many people still believe that money can buy happiness despite the mounds of evidence to the contrary. Wealthy and popular actors or actresses committing suicide because of depression. Billionaire business people engaging in risky behavior to get a rush because they find their everyday life boring. We even have those, I won't mention names, who think that the key to happiness is having a million babies. On the other side of the fence, there are those who think that in a world full of death, disease, greed, and so on, happiness is impossible. Neither of those attitudes is correct.
"Joy is what happens when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are." ~Marianne Williamson
Happiness comes from allowing ourselves to enjoy the pleasant and positive things in the world even though we know the world is not perfect and there are negative things also. Happiness comes from doing what we can to improve the world and helping others do the same.
"As we cultivate peace and happiness in ourselves, we also nourish peace and happiness in those we love" ~Thich Nhat Hanh
We cultivate happiness when we share our joys with others. It can be family, friends or total strangers, just share your joy and other will share theirs with you.
"Happiness is a continuation of happenings which are not resisted." ~Deepak Chopra
We also must not resist happiness when it is there to enjoy because we think the world is just too messed up to be happy about anything. With that attitude, it becomes impossible to make things better.
