Spiritual Symbols: Door
|
A door is an obvious symbol with both secular and spiritual meanings. A door is a passageway from one place to another so can represent an opportunity or crossing between the physical and spiritual. To Christians, a door can represent Christ as the door to get to heaven. In zodiac symbology, the "door of the gods" was the spiritual sun. A cathedral has three doors in front representing faith, hope, and charity. A door can ofter represent hope. Hope of getting to something better or just hope of leaving where you are. In Feng Shui, the direction your front door faces can determine if you will have good look and good fortune, or not. A door that is closed and has no handle symbolizes a person who is unwilling to change. Doors and windows are often used to symbolize an aspect of a personality in novels. Well known author Emily Bronte was known for using this symbology. A person who only looks outside through a window or a partially opened door is someone who has a narrow view of the world. Characters looking through windows in books can also indicate that the person is standoffish. |
