Listening to spiritual people talk about the soul, and others talk about it, you might think they were talking about two different things.  If so, you are correct, they are two different things: the mundane or material soul and the spiritual soul.
    The mundane soul is a part of your physical/mental being along with the body and the brain/mind.  It is only concerned with matters of the physical world and always wants to improve it.  It is very emotional.  It is this soul which is appealed to and soothed by such books as the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series.  Sadly, it is also the one that many large churches appeal to.
    The spiritual soul is connected with the spirit and the spiritual worlds (also called worlds of Light).  It is not concerned at all with the health of the body and the mind except as they may harm the spirit.  It is not concerned with helping you get a job, find true love, or win the lottery.  It's only interest, once awakened, is to try to get you back to Heaven as quickly as possible.
    If these two souls are operating in cooperation, you are a very fortunate, accomplished and enlightened person.  Unfortunately, they are usually in conflict.  The mundane soul knows nothing of the spiritual worlds and wants to keep you totally involved with the material world while the spiritual soul wants you to concentrate on spiritual development.  Part of what a good spiritual teacher does, is help you resolve this conflict and get the two souls working together.
