Dangers of Conflict
Back when airplanes were first getting fast enough to break the sound barrier, a number of them were destroyed or seriously damaged when they got very close to this speed and some believed it could not be reached. Later though, some pilots discovered that the trick to it was not to stay at the speed of sound, but go beyond it as quickly as possible. Why? Because when the plane is traveling at the speed of sound it creates conflict with the force of the sound waves. This results in the plane being hit with very violent vibrations that can tear it apart of it lasts more than a fraction of a second. Once the plane gets past the barrier, it is no longer in conflict and the vibrations stop.
Other types of conflict cause harmful vibrations also, although they may not be obvious. When we are argumentative, combative, or just angry at others for whatever reason, we create conflict between us. That conflict causes damage to everyone involved. This damage can result in illness and faster aging so it should be avoided. We avoid it by learning to separate people from their actions. You can be angry about bigotry, for example, but not the bigot who is usually behaving according to how he was raised and educated. And the same for animals. It is surprising to me how many people expect animals to behave like humans and get angry when they don't. I know a barking dog can be annoying, but that's what dogs do. Getting angry with an animal for behaving like an animal is like blaming a cloud when it rains. And we don't have to take sides on every issue and get angry with those who disagree. Everething isn't a competition. We need to learn how to cooperate or we may be the next dominant species to become extinct.
