Giving to God
Jesus told his followers to give to Caesar the things that were Caesars and to God the things that were God's (Luke 20:25). We know that this was in reference to paying taxes to Caesar and the Romans, but what about giving to God?
Some think that offerings of dead animals, usually burned, is the correct thing to give to God, but Jesus disagreed with that.
Some have substituted burning incense for burned animals. Burning incense is a good thing to do, but not as a sacrifice to God.
Some think giving valuables and money to God, or indirectly to God by giving to churches is the way. While, again, giving to churches is a good thing, it takes more than that to become enlightened and become one of God's chosen. What God wants us to sacrifice is the egoic idea that we can run things just fine without Him. He wants us to follow His will and His plan. Not in the sense of being slaves of God, but rather as partners and co-creators helping him create a better world by returning it to it's original, spiritual state before the fall.
