Transients
When I was in the army, I once worked under a First Sergeant who considered those who we're in the service for just a few years transients, like guests at a hotel rather than staff.
When it come to the material world, we are all transients here. We are not really material beings who live for a few decades, then die and it's over. We are immortal spirits that existed for billions of years before there was any people on Earth and will exist for billions of years after the Earth is a burned up cinder.
So when it comes to where to put our efforts, what is more important: creating a comfortable and happy, but transient, life as a material being or developing and integrating with our spirit which will exist forever? The answer should be obvious, but the choice is yours.
