Everybody has a Story
Everybody has a story to tell and we can learn something from everybody if we are willing to listen with an open mind. Unfortunately, most of us don't listen with an open mind. We thing people who are not as well educated as us can't teach us anything. We thing people or another race or religion or nationality can't teach us anything. And, when we do listen, it's often with a closed mind. We need an open mind to listen, otherwise, we're not hearing what the person is saying, only the part we want to hear. And we need to remember that probably ninety percent of what we know didn't come from formal education. So listen to those stories.

I agree with you that everyone has a story and how much we can learn just by asking questions about people's lives and listening with an open mind. As a Hairdresser and Bartender, I have spent my whole working life listening about people's lives. And that is the key word: listening and having a real interest in what they are saying. When they know that you are truly interested, they open up and tell you everything. And it means alot to people to have someone they can trust and they know are truly interested and want to know about their lives. I do not remember what Psychologist said this, but it was, "It is much better to be a good listener than a good talker." I have learned more about people and life and this World and have learned more life lessons than I could have ever gotten from a formal education. We can learn so much from others if we would just take an interest in someone else besides ourself.

Yes, hairdressers and bartenders get to hear peoples stories whether they want to or not, but you do learn a lot about people that way.
