Wizards and Technology

I've noticed that in the Harry Potter stories, the wizards and witches avoid modern technology.  They use candles rather than electric lights.  They use pads and quill pens rather than laptops.  They don't drive cars.  To my knowledge, there is no explanation in the books for this, but this attitude is not unusual, especially among spiritual people.  We are all familiar with the Amish and other Mennonites who avoid all electrical devices and most other types of modern technology.  And there are tales of the distant past  that indicate advanced technology is not always a good thing.
Psychic prophet Edgar Cayce claimed that the ancient civilization of Atlantis was destroyed by it's advance technology.  Other ancient tales, not as well known as the story of Atlantis, say that some ancient civilizations developed technologies every bit as advanced as what we have today, though different, but gave up that technology when their prophets warned them that technology was turning them away from God and would lead to their destruction if they continued on that path.  Sadly, it appear that today we are doing it again.
