How we've Changed
Back in the 1950's, when I was a kid, I wouldn't dare smoke a cigarette, drink beer, or steal something in a public place. If I did, some adult would probably see me and call my parents to inform them, if not the police. In those days, people really believed that it took a village to raise a child. People worked together and cooperated with each other. In most places, it was safe for a kid to walk alone because people paid attention to what was going on around them and took responsibility for being part of a society.
So what progress has been brought to us by our advanced technology with computers in every house and cell phones in every pocket? In our far more advanced society of today, we have a kid getting set on fire for being a snitch and a crowd watching while a girl is raped outside a high school with no one trying to help or call the police.
If this is progress, Ill take the primitive days over it anytime.
