Being Wild

It is somewhat strange, in my opinion, that some young people today seem to want to digress to a wild animal stage rather than trying to achieve a more advanced stage.  An example of this from my own experience occurred over a year ago.  I was walking my dogs and we came close to a group of teens, probably 13 or 14.  One of them may have said something about being afraid of my large dogs that I didn't hear.  A girl in the group replied rather loudly, probably with the intention that I would hear her as well as everyone in her peer group, "well if one of those dogs tries to bite me, I'll just bite him back."  So her choice was not to try to domesticate and civilize the animal, but to stoop to their level, or worse.  And she was proud enough of this attitude to shout it out in front of her friends and an adult stranger as if she deserved some reward for being willing to give up thousands of years of civilization to become a beast.
That may seem like an isolated case, but a quick review of news stories for the last few years will reveal that it isn't.  Every few months there is some story about teens clubbing a homeless man to death for kicks, shooting students and teachers at their school, or beating someone up while a friend tapes it for youtube.  The most recent one it the college student who stabbed another in the neck during class.
The more popular churches do not seem to be able  to do anything about this.  Since some of them actually preach hatred and divisiveness, they are, in fact, part of the problem rather than a solution.  What is needed is religion that is spiritual in nature rather than just social clubs.  That is what International Community of Christ is.
