Sacred Scents: Frankincense
I have previously posted about scents and how they can aid in spiritual development, primarily in two ways. One, a particular scent may invoke certain thoughts and feelings in you that benefit you spiritually and two, the vibrations of the scent, like sound vibration, can help raise your vibration rate getting you closer to that of the spiritual beings on a higher plane of existence so that you can communicate with them. Now I am going to start looking at some specific scents, just as I have done with spiritual symbols and gemstones.
I am starting with Frankincense as that is probably the best known spiritual scent, at least in the Christian world. We all know it was one of the symbolic gifts the Magi gave to baby Jesus and this gift symbolized that the Magi recognized Jesus as a great spiritual leader. So, obviously, Frankincense is considered a very spiritual scent. Frankincense is a tree of the Boswellia genus. It is used for protection from evil, for love ceremonies, for religious consecration and even in some forms of exorcism. I use it frequently in my morning cleansing ritual. It has a very pleasant scent and, fortunately, is not anymore expensive than other scents. The Egyptians used it in their embalming formulas. The very name Frankincense tells you this scent is generally used as incense, but you can also get it in oil form, which is actually a mixture of Frankincense with some type of vegetable oil, for uses where you can't, or don't want to, use incense. In Chinese healing, Frankincense can be used for eye problems, especially macular degeneration. It is used by massaging the bony area around the eyes with the oil. Frankincense can help with emotional problems, fatigue, nervousness, insomnia, indigestion and other physical ailments, but I want to look more at using it for spiritual purposes. When praying, or engaging in other types of spiritual techniques to community with Light Beings or increase your spiritual consciousness, you can use it as incense or as an oil. Outdoors, I recommend the oil. You can put a few drops on your face or put it on a clean cloth and sniff it occasionally. In addition to increasing vibrations, it slows and calms the breathing which aids in relaxing the mind which is necessary in spiritual communication.

The BBC are covering the Frankincense Trail on BBC2 . They did the Oman filming in June 2008 - some of the other stuff took longer. Kate Humble is such a good presenter that anything she does is fun to watch .
