Random Thoughts 7-26-2009

I was notified this week that over $29 of my loans through Kiva had been repayed so I re-loaned $25 to a guy in Peru, a single father who sells beer and food from a little stand on the weekend to help feed his daughter and keep her in school.  I encourage everyone who can to take a look at this charity.  I think helping people start or keep a small business is a better way to help then just giving them food or clothes.

Weird and Crazy Crime:

A young woman smuggling drugs into England might not have gotten caught if she had bothered to learn anything about the game of golf.  When a security person saw her towing along her golf bag full of clubs, he asked her what her handicap was.  She though he was talking about a physical disability and answered accordingly.  This made him suspicious and when her golf gear was searched they found drugs hidden in the clubs.

A woman in Florida reported her car stolen, but when police noticed holes in the story and started questioning her more she confessed that she crashed the car herself because she couldn't make the payments.  Apparently, she thought if the car was stolen, her debt would go away.  Now she has charges on her record of filing a false report, careless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.  And a wrecked car she still has to pay for.
