More on Obesity
I posted a story once before about obesity and the epidemic in this country, especially among young people, but really everyone. Now I want to look at it from a different angle. Instead of looking at obesity as a disease, let's look at it as a symptom. When we do, we see that the actual disease causing it in most cases is materialism. Not just the idea that material things, money, property, etc are good and important, to a certain extent that is harmless, but the belief that there is nothing else beyond that. This extreme materialism causes those who can't believe in the existence of anything beyond what is known to the physical senses which are, of course, limited to knowledge of the material world, to try to satisfy their hunger with more food. Unfortunately, it isn't food they are hungering for, but something more, something beyond the physical. So I believe that one good way to help those suffering from obesity is to help them learn that there is something more than the material world and something more important than collecting as much material stuff as possible.
