The Nobel Peace Prize

We have all heard of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded annually.  It is just one of the Nobel prizes, but the most famous of them which is probably appropriate considering how the prizes were born.  I think there are many who don't know the story so I will provide a brief summary here.
Alfred Nobel was a Swedish scientist and inventor and manufacturer.  He is best known as the inventor of dynamite.  He also owned an armaments factory that made weapons and explosives.  In 1888, a French newspaper wrote a premature obituary for Nobel who was still alive.  The paper referred to Nobel as a "merchant of death" and condemned him for inventing dynamite and other explosives.  Nobel read the article and was much affected by it.  He became very pacifistic and started the plan to leave his fortune to award the prizes as a way to make amends.
I like this story because it shows that almost anyone can have a change of heart and become a better person under the right conditions.
